The implementation of single treatment radiofrequency for the reduction of cellulite is a new method of tackling this widely experienced skin problem. Cellulite is lumpy skin areas commonly found on the thighs, stomach, and buttocks. Cellulite is actually individual and clumped collections of fat that push against the connective tissue beneath a person's skin, which causes the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and look lumpy.

Between 85% and 98% of post-pubescent females display some degree of cellulite. There appears to be a hormonal component to its presentation. It is rarely seen in males. Cellulite is not related to being overweight; average and underweight people also get cellulite.

Because there is no "cure" for cellulite, the best and most effective treatments diminish the appearance of the uneven skin. Thermage was the original – and has long been considered the most effective – skin tightening procedure outside of surgery. Thermage works by restoring the collagen connective tissues and improving circulation. The tightening effect begins with a single treatment and continues over a period of months as new collagen production serves to smooth and level the skin surface.

Thermage conducted clinical studies for 21 months to develop the optimal treatment tip parameters and procedure guidelines for cellulite.

Dr. Sedgh may recommend a combination of procedures. To reduce the volume of fat in the cellulite pockets, Mesotherapy may be the first step you wish to take. In Mesotherapy a chemical called Phosphatidylcholine breaks down the fat within the fat chambers, allowing the cells to shrink and become less obvious on the skin surface. Once the fat volume is reduced, the tightening effects of Thermage cellulite treatments will complete the process. Patients with low fat volume may discover that Thermage alone provides a very satisfactory appearance improvement.

The ThermaTip CL pulses radiofrequency energy deep into the skin to the lower dermis. The heat effect within the skin and fat layer "remodels" and tightens existing collagen. Initial tightening is more felt than seen, with the continued collagen production creating a smoother and less dimpled skin surface over a period of  3 to 6 months.

The skin has three layers: a visible out layer on the surface called the epidermis, a collagen-rich underlayer beneath the surface called the dermis, and an inner layer beneath the dermis called the subcutaneous layer, also known as the fat layer that has a web of collagen fibers running through it.

It is the tightening of these three layers that provides the in-depth smoothing effect of the skin.
